Nicolas Lippolis, a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Global Energy Policy and the Climate School at Columbia University, participated in the seminar “Energy Transition and Artificial Intelligence: Solutions for a Sustainable World” at the Smith Learning Theater at Columbia University in New York in March 2025.
The seminar served as an opportunity for academics, policymakers, and industry professionals to discuss the intersection of technology, sustainability, and investment.
Fundação Getúlio Vargas, FGV Europe, organized the seminar, in partnership with the Consulate General of Brazil in New York, Columbia University, the Lemann Center for Brazilian Studies, and the Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS), as well as Amcham-Brasil, the São Paulo School of Economics (FGV EESP), and the Rio de Janeiro School of Law (FGV Direito Rio).
Dr. Lippolis participated in the panel “Energy Transition and Brazil’s Renewable Energy Matrix,” discussing Brazil’s green transition policies and data center investment strategies that leverage the country’s renewable energy matrix. Moderated by Marco Contardi, project development manager at FGV Europe, the panel also featured Dimitri Zabelin, geopolitical strategist at Pantheon Insights, and Bruno Dantas, minister of the Federal Court of Auditors and professor at FGV Direito Rio.
Two other panels addressed “Technological Development and Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure,” addressing the critical role of data centers and strategies to minimize environmental impacts, and “Attracting Investment for Renewable Energy and AI Infrastructure in Brazil,” addressing the role of public policies in attracting foreign investment focused on energy, technology, and infrastructure, and Brazil’s energy regulatory framework, recognized as one of the most complex and dynamic in the world.
